BLUE SAXOPHONE AWARD
In Memory of Danie Thomssen
The blue saxophone became an award in the 2017 season. It is an award that honors the memory of Danie Thomssen, who was a freshman in the band in 2016 and was tragically killed in a car accident in February of 2017. Danie lived and breathed band and she loved playing sax and being part of the GSMB. She was very bright, happy, bubbly, and always made everybody's day with her positive attitude and jokes. Blue was Danie's favorite color, so thus the blue saxophone was born. The award goes to the first year saxophone who best exemplifies Danie's attitude towards the band and towards life in general. This person receives the honor of marching with the blue saxophone for the next full band season and keeping Danie's spirit alive within the band.
